A pouch and a girl

Hello!  The sun is out here but it is still freezing cold!  That wind has a real bite to it still.  The schools finish at 2.30 today and are off for a fortnight.  Here's hoping the weather improves for the children!

I haven't done a huge amount this week.  I did get this little pouch finished as an extra for my swap partner in the Modern She Made Swap.  It is a pattern by Michelle's patterns and I just love it!

Yesterday was a treat as the infant department at primary were hosting an afternoon tea!  Emma and her class donned their Easter glasses(???) and joined the p2 and p3 class to sing some Easter songs and recite some poems.  They were awesome!  All happy, having a great time and Emma was all smiles.  She loves this kind of stuff.  Oh and there was tea and cake! even better!.

It is especially wonderful for me to see my little girl like this because we actually deferred her a year before starting primary one.  She should really have started before she was 5 in December but she was not ready in my opinion.  She has had very slow speech development and still sees the speech therapist once a week in school.  It is clarity more than anything I think that is the issue.  She is also incredibly shy.  She used to hide away when visitors came to the house.  However, she is very clever and creative and kind, sensitive and loving.  I am so pleased at how she settled into primary one last August.  She started with all the kids from her nursery class and, in my opinion, we totally did the right thing deferring her.  The school were v supportive too.

So yes, a photo like this, of a happy wee p1 girl really warms the cockles of my heart knowing that above all she is happy.  The most important thing of all!

Have a wonderful Easter!

wonky blog not wonky blocks!

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog this cold Monday morning.  Here in Ayrshire we had snow over the weekend but nothing like the amounts some areas have been getting.  The poor people on Arran are without power and many areas are really struggling.  If you have been affected then I empathise.

When I logged onto my blog I discovered it was a little wonky.  Showing a post from ages ago on my home page.  So apologies for this and if you notice anything else strange (other than the usual me!) then please let me know if you get the chance.

I haven't been doing a huge amount of sewing.  I have been working on a little mini quilt for the Modern She Made Swap partner I have been assigned.  I shall be making her a little pouch too and some other extras.

I really want to keep this mini simple, let the fabrics do the talking and the quilting.  Can you guess the theme???

The pouch I am planning is probably going to be along these lines.  I made this for myself on Saturday night as a pick me up.  I had a crappy day and needed to make something quick, easy and just for me!  This pouch is made from Michelle's patterns and is super easy and cute.

Last night I did a little more hand sewing on these largish hexagons.  I started this project ages ago and planned a small table topper or baby blanket but now I don't know where it is going.  I think I will just keep going with it and then decide!  It will keep me busy during the Easter holidays when the kids are off.  They finish on Thursday and then are off for 2 weeks.  I truly hope the weather warms up slightly so heading out is a bit more pleasant.  Need to think of cheap things to do with an 8 year old and a 6 year old.  Ideas welcome on a postcard please.

tea, toast and a blog post

This is how I intended to start the day.  Tea, toast and write a blog post.  That was at 9am!  It is now one minute past 1pm!

Yes, time flies when you are having fun.  Not really.  I have been updating my about page in my etsy shop this morning.  So that people can learn a little more about me and why I create.  It was quite fun but hard trying to put into words why I quilt.  You can give your verdict by looking here is you have time.

Incidentally, Thomas Knauer( fabric designer, quilt maker, dad and all round cool guy), has been writing some excellent blog posts on the whys of quilting here.   He certainly encourages me to think more about what I do and why and consequently value it that little bit more.

Yesterday I finished off my bee blocks.  The first is for Rachel who is Queen Bee this month for the Hipbees.

Lovely Liberty prints with yummy butterscotch kona.

The second is for Jan who is Queenie for this month for Bee a Brit Stingy.

Jan wanted summery colours which remind us of summer days.  These colours make me dream of lemonade, fresh cut grass, grapes, plums, oranges, and the sea.

And that is all from me for now!

wow finishes!

Hello and hope everyone all had a great weekend!

Just a quick pop in today to share some finishes with you.  I am off out for lunch with my OH for a change today as he is off.  V unusual I do this so a treat for me!

I finished my wall hanging for our living room.  I really like it and it fills a space on the wall.

I also finished the sweet little baby quilt for my etsy shop.  I am really trying to expand my choice of these so there will probably be more to come I hope!

I love how this has turned out.

That's all for now. I will catch up properly with everyone tomorrow.  Have a great day!

Friday funnies and fabric

Good morning!  Thursday already - now how did that happen???

On Wednesday I spent the morning making a pieced quilt back for this baby quilt I am working on.  I really quite like it!

I begun straight line quilting it yesterday and made some scrappy binding.     I did a little FMQ practise yesterday but I am not v good at making the fabric behave so my stitch lengths aren't great.

When you do binding do you go scrappy or matching?  What do you prefer?

I have also been dreaming about my next fabric purchase.  Lynne at Lily's Quilts drew everyone's attention (on instagram) to this new line from Moda by Basic Grey.

It is called PB & J and is yummy scrummy.  I think the precuts are out overseas just now and I have no idea when the UK stores will get it.  If you have any idea then please let me know.

I am hoping to have some finishes to share with you all really soon.  Meanwhile let me leave you with some Friday Funnies!

ooh baby baby!

Well who had snow ?  We had several inches yesterday but it has mostly gone today, thank goodness!  I really hope that we have seen the last of it.

I have been quite productive over the last few days.

I have made and added two more camera cases to my etsy shop.

Love the colour combos in these ones.

The pattern I use to make these cuties is here and the wonderful pattern maker allows you to make and sell them on a small scale as long as you purchase the pattern and credit the designer on your listing when selling the item.  I love the patterns she comes up with and the instructions are super clear.

I have made another small baby quilt top for the shop too.  I have always wanted to stock more baby quilts but getting the time to make these has been hard in the past.

Today I finished up the top of this little sweet quilt.  The yellows are more warm and golden toned than the pic suggests.  I love it.

Next on the list are my two bee blocks!

Must fly as kids are due home in T minus 7  xx

2 finishes in a week!

You can tell I have had some free time this week to get on with some shop sewing and gift sewing!

First up is a basket I have made using Pink Penguin's awesome basket tutorial for my mummy.  This will be posted tomorrow with a card for Mother's day.

On Monday I started piecing this patchwork wonky star wondering where it would go.  It became a cushion cover with envelope closure at the back.  So easy to make using this tutorial.  Of course I had to make it a patchwork cushion and quilted.  I love the texture this grid style quilting adds to it.  You just want to touch it!

I am delighted with how it turned out and have put it in my etsy shop for sale.  I can see more of these cushions in my future.

Off to catch up on some lovely blogs now and then I should get on with sewing some more camera cases!

back to work!

Well Emma is back at school today feeling much better so this week I will be cracking on with some sewing!  Hooray!

I didn't get much done over the weekend other than basting this wall hanging for my living room.  Jacob had a friend over to play and Emma was out on Saturday with Gran and Papa so I got this done.

At this stage I am still unsure how I will quilt it, but I am thinking about some hand quilting with perle cotton.
Possibly binding in black and white Kei honeycomb dots!

I received an awesome package from the lovely Rachel who blogs at Mammafairy Sews.  It is her turn to be Queen Bee in the Hipbees.  She sent some lovely fabric for her block.

Butterscotch Kona and Liberty prints - yummy!  Oh and the most gorgeous pinnie with a little bee in the middle!

Today I want to get on with this baby quilt for my etsy shop.  Or at least I think that is what it is going to be???

Good March morning! It is a gorgeous Spring day here in bonnie Scotland and the first of March. It is quite a good feeling isn't it?

Today being the first of the month means that all us cool kids link up over at Lily's Quilts with the lovely Lynne to share what we have been up to over the last month. So here I am!
