How slow do you go?

This last few days I have been working away on a needleturn applique block from Green Tea and Sweet Beans.  This pattern in handpieced which means hand sewing.

I love slow projects that I can savour like this one.  It got me thinking!  What is it you love/hate about slow sewing?  I would love to know.

I love the relaxation it brings me.  Hand quilting is a love of mine and I feel like it is almost meditative.

So go on and share on what you love or hate about hand sewing!

  1. I love the way it's portable, so I can sit in front of TV or in the garden to do it. I hate the slowness of it at times. Sometimes I just want the project finished already! Yours is looking fab!

  2. I enjoy the 'take it with me' but I cannot abide a thimble, and I hate the hard callous at the end of my finger, when I have been doing a lot!

  4. I always like to have a portable project ready to go, but find that I am beyond slow as my stitches seem to get smaller and smaller as I go on. So my on the go projects tend to be on the go for a long time!!!

  5. I have to say I LOVE hand stitching a binding, but this would drive me MENTAL. I love how it looks and totally appreciate the time and effort (someone else) put into stitching the appliqué, but there's no way I could do that and maintain my sanity. It looks absolutely gorgeous...keep going!

  6. I love hand stitching, but I hate that wall you hit in bigger projects where you just want it done and to move on to something else.

  7. Don't mind binding, and a bit of EPP but needleturn applique is not on my favourites list at all - yours is looking super.

  8. How slow do I go? So slow that you'd think I'd come to a complete standstill if you just glanced at me ;o) Your flowers are gorgeous!

  9. Your flowers are looking great - and that is exactly where I am up to on the quilt also!
I do love to hand sew - it is soothing and relaxing, I find.

  10. This is beautiful! I enjoy hand stitching but I get bored of projects if they go on for too long so I'm better with smaller projects if they have a lot of handwork :)
